The purpose behind our work

Vision and mission

CIRD’s vision is for rural communities to produce and access healthy food, build secure livelihoods, reach markets, care for natural resources and access quality rural education.

Our mission

CIRD works to reduce poverty and strengthen the livelihoods of rural and marginalised communities through practical skills and support for local organisations. Farming and rural enterprise are developed with attention to biodiversity and the environment.

Healthy food and diverse production

Practical support brings vegetables, rice, livestock and other farm activities into local planning. Household food production and market opportunities are considered together.

Community participation and practical learning

Linking production and markets

Stronger rural organisations and enterprises

CIRD supports organisations that can serve their members: keeping useful records, managing finances, planning services, organising production and working with buyers.

Learning that improves rural decisions

Field assessment, farmer experience and applied research inform production, organisational choices, quality systems and policy discussions.

The values behind the work

Consultation, dialogue, accountability, transparency, equity, teamwork and innovation guide CIRD’s work. These commitments mean listening to local priorities, agreeing responsibilities, sharing information and learning from experience.
