National pepper-policy research and environmental-risk assessment

CIRD studied Cambodia’s pepper sector, production and export costs, institutions and environmental risks for the International Finance Corporation. The findings informed national pepper-policy development and discussion of a pepper and spices federation.

CIRD’s contribution

Research and assessment team, with CIRD responsible for project management, field and desk research, consultation and analysis.

Practical work

Mapped pepper-sector stakeholders and reviewed relevant policies, programmes and legislation.
Conducted field research, interviews, desk reviews and consultation workshops.
Analysed costs from farm production through drying, packing, transport, export documentation and product checks.
Assessed environmental risks in pepper production and trade and identified opportunities for sustainable, traceable supply chains.
