Evidence for practical decisions

Research, Development and Documentation

CIRD uses applied research, assessments, interviews, monitoring and documentation to understand rural conditions and inform work with farmers, organisations and partners.

Women’s decisions and climate adaptation

GeNA is a regional research collaboration examining women’s participation in aquaculture and nature-based climate adaptation. CIRD’s Cambodian monitoring follows households combining rice and fish production.

Agricultural markets and rural products

Studies cover vegetable markets, pepper enterprises, geographical indications and other rural value chains. They examine actors, market relationships, production conditions and the choices facing producers.

Research for agricultural policy

In 2018–2019, CIRD’s national pepper study combined stakeholder interviews, field research and consultation with analysis of production, processing, transport and export costs. It also assessed environmental risks and supplied evidence for pepper-policy development. Rice-commercialisation work studied contract farming and tested producer-organisation roles in paddy marketing.

Organisations, services and finance

CIRD’s business-section team assessed 20 farmer organisations in Preah Vihear in March 2026. Rice-livelihoods fieldwork in Kampong Thom also examined processors’ credit needs and risks through discussions with enterprises and financial institutions in March 2025.

Records that support follow-up

Field records, surveys and digital recordkeeping help teams review production and management. Training on digital farm recording in August 2024 is one example of connecting practical tools with field support.
