Credible quality and informed policy

Product Quality Standards and Policy Advocacy

CIRD helps producers and partners work with product standards, quality records, traceability, origin-based products and consumer protection.

Consumer protection and public discussion

CIRD connects consumer-awareness research, food-safety dialogue and consumer networking to help people make informed choices and strengthen their collective voice. It supported the establishment of the Cambodian Consumer Association on Food Safety (CAFS), including its founding assembly on 23 March 2024. Prak Sereyvath’s consumer-policy work includes presentations on consumer empowerment, food safety and consumer associations. He also spoke at a March 2026 workshop organised by the Ministry of Commerce and GIZ, Germany’s international cooperation organisation.

Products with a recognised origin

Geographical indications connect a product’s qualities and reputation with its place of origin. CIRD’s early work supported Kampot pepper and Kampong Speu palm sugar. From 2020 to 2023, Cambodian coordination within a regional programme also supported Kampot and Kep salt and salt flower, and Mondulkiri wild honey. Work included producer associations, product specifications, control plans, member training and market promotion.

Quality assurance in rice and seed

Quality seed, field checks, handling and records are connected parts of rice production. CIRD participates in practical training and coordination with cooperatives, seed authorities, processors and implementation partners.

Policy grounded in production and markets

CIRD’s pepper-sector research supplied evidence on production and trade costs, environmental risks and sector organisation for national policy development. Agricultural-transition and rice-commercialisation assignments contributed contract-farming guidance, producer-service support and field-based policy recommendations.
