Practical learning for diverse farms

Agroecology

Agroecology applies ecological understanding to farming decisions. CIRD works with farmers and organisations to explore soil cover, diverse production, organic inputs and practices suited to local conditions.

Start with the farm’s conditions

Land, water, crops, labour and household priorities shape practical choices. Demonstrations and field follow-up help farmers compare what works in their own situation. CIRD’s agricultural-transition work also assessed practices to test with farmers in irrigation schemes and water-channel areas.

Connect practice with organisation and markets

Agroecological practice sits alongside seed access, organisational services, finance, quality assurance and market relationships. Successive family-farming assignments brought these concerns together through training, cooperative support and buyer connections.

Living cover in pepper production

Pepper cultivation with living ground cover and shade netting is one practical example from CIRD’s pepper-sector work. It connects vegetation management and farm design with the conditions growers work in.

Agroforestry learning

The Syntropic Agroforestry Innovation Accelerator is a learning pathway that connects knowledge exchange, practical training, local trials and shared observation.
